Return to Sport Policy

General Return to Sport

Prior to full training being resumed, physical tasks will be introduced in a controlled environment before returning to on-horse training. This may take anywhere from several days/weeks to several months. Depending on the time required to build up the necessary skills, strength, coordination, balance and general fitness. In the case of serious injuries a doctors note maybe required to return to sport.

After a Minor Injury

Athletes should always get their injuries checked by a health care professional, as there is always a chance of underlying injuries not visible to the naked eye or potential to do more damage to stressed areas of the body.

If the health care professional recommends continuing training with only minor adjustments to the training material, we require a note from the health care professional to support this.

After a Serious Injury

All athletes must get their injuries checked by a health care professional at the time of the injury. Depending on the severity of the injury, the necessary steps will be outlined by the professional in regard to imaging needed (radiographs, ultrasound etc.).

After a serious injury, athlete should be monitored by a doctor and a physiotherapist to guide in the return to sport process. All athletes must be cleared by a health care professional prior to returning to sport. A written letter must be returned to your coach.

During the necessary time off to heal the injury, athletes are encouraged to attend training sessions if appropriate and depending on the severity of the injuries. During this time athletes can assist with training in other ways, or complete suitable exercises to maintain general fitness and/or strength. These exercises will be determined with consultation of the health care professionals. Attending off horse activities and training sessions can help maintain the team bonds and will make return to sport an easier transition.

After a Concussion

We follow the Parachute Return to Sport Strategies. You will find additional information on these strategies above in the links. Please familiarize yourself with these strategies.

You will also find a Return to Play Form, provided by Equestrian Canada. This form must be followed and completed step by step. We will guide you through each step if needed. There should be considerable communication between rider/parents and Hylee Training during this process.

To return to full regular activities and training at Hylee Training, a full clearance letter or signed Return to Play Form must be emailed to alicia@hyleetraining.com
