Hello Everyone!

12590 Bell Street

We are quickly getting sorted in our new location, although we may not have a ring in 15 days! The weather has not cooperated with us at all. Right now we have a very flat piece of dirt with 8 inches of snow.. With other delays with equipment has made getting the ring completed by January 15th impossible. The good news is that’s the only bad news.. I hope to have everything a go for February 1st. Our new barn washroom is all planned out as is my new office and all should be up and running.

For the first few weeks, we will be operating in the daylight only, while lights are installed. On top of the that we will be building a new 10 stall barn in the next 2 months and the second 10 stall barn will be built later in the year. We will have a variety of new staff – as everyone can’t move with us.

A sad goodbye

We are very sad to say good bye to our Delta, Richmond and Vancouver friends but are happy to say Hello to our Fraser Valley friends. We want to thank all our previous clients for a wonderful 2011 and we wish you all the best!

Now Booking

We are now booking for the month of February (meaning we are 100% booked for the month of Jan). All regular clients need to get in their scheduling requirements before we open the booking up to everyone else. As well please note that because for the next 2 months we will be weather dependent, any lessons rained out will be theory lessons indoors. Which of course goes with our philosophy of giving and all round horse experience.

Open House

No dates as of yet!

New Programs

This year we have a slew of new programs coming including: Ride, JUMP Ride and Moms & Tots… Details are still being worked out.

Working students

We have officially got our working student program put together – its on the website. http://www.hyleetraining.com/rider-program/working-student-program/ It does require all interested people to send in a resume!

Contest

This month we had a contest for a $200 Gift Certificate. It was won by Lenna Hintz.. ( Leanna – it’s coming I forgot to send it this week This contest is even more the reason why you need to be on our FB page!

Cheers,

Well this will be the last newsletter this year – since this year is almost over. The new year brings new hopes and new opportunities for all and especially us.

Announcement

I’m am very excited to announce to you that we have purchased 5 acres of land between Maple Ridge and Mission. And February 1st, Hylee Training will be moving to that location. Everything will be set up and ready to go for that date as long, as all goes as planned. The month of January will be our last month at our Delta location. To be honest I certainly won’t miss the mess around the property at all!

Now, what does that mean for you?

For all our regular clients, while I would love if everyone was able to come with us, I understand that the additional distance is a problem. And in the case that you are not able to come with us. I most certainly understand and I’m happy to refer you to another coach in the Richmond/Delta area. As you can probably understand purchasing property is big step and something we had to do. With the arrival of my son, it was without a doubt something I had to do. I will most certainly miss all the clients I have to leave behind. Please understand that I wish I could have a chance to speak to each of you individually however – it’s not as easy as it sounds. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email or call me.

If you have any outstanding lessons that need to be booked please do so if Mission is to far for you

Our new location is now located on our website and if you are interested in being put on the regular schedule please let me know:)

Working Student & Staff

We will now be looking for a working student in our new location. A working student is someone who comes and works with us, in the lesson string environment who is either looking to become a coach or trainer. The duties include a few chores shifts per week, riding and schooling of lesson horses, farm work – in return we provide an opportunity to work with two certified coaches on a daily basis one or two private lessons per week depending on the availability of the working student, as well as mentored time spent teaching our students, and show coaching.

We will also be looking for staff for the weekly chores, weekend chores will be covered.:) The ability to handle horses is required and no one under 15 please ::)

Open House

We invite everyone to come out to our open house to the new location. Date TBA.

Show Schedule

Our 2012 Show Schedule is now posted on our website: http://www.hyleetraining.com/show-schedule/

Summer Camps are back on!

Don’t forget about summer camp! Camps are back on for this summer. The possibility of an overnight camp is in the works. To date the dates are as follows:

July 9 – July 13th
July 23 – 28th
August 6 – 10th
August 20 – 24th

*price will be $300 per week. Camps will also be arranged based on ability.

Hey Everyone!

The weather has certainly changed this week… it’s beginning to feel a lot like winter out there. The horses are all growing their winter coats some have even grew a winter blanket!

Lesson Schedule

This month there isn’t too much going on at Hylee other than the fact…. We have lights! Finally the lights have been hooked up again and we are again able to teach late into the evening. Moving forward our last lesson of the night is 9pm. Speaking of lessons of course we are now scheduling for the Dec schedule, anyone who isn’t already on the schedule and would like to be just send me an email. Lesson rates are posted on the website here: http://www.hyleetraining.com/boarding-training/lessons/

Get High School Credits

HCBC (Horse Council of BC) has a program that enables kids to put their riding lesson towards high school credits. Note that this can only be done with CERTIFIED COACHES (which we are). Read more about ths program on the Horse Council website: http://www.hcbc.ca/High-School-Credits.html?

Banquet

Tomorrow Megan, Helen, Jamie and I are heading to the DRC Awards Banquet. Someone is getting an award, I won’t say who (but it’s not me)… It should be a fun night out for the group. Photos will be posted soon on the website.

Christmas Camps

We have now set the dates for the Christmas Camp, which is December 19th-23rd. Camps are from 9 am – 4pm Monday – Friday. Deadline for sign up is November 19th. Each camp is $300 + HST. Fifty percent of the price is required to confirm your spot. Please email and let me know that you are interested in attending. The camp schedule of events will be posted on the website shortly.

Volunteering

Often we are have inquiries for people who would like to volunteer or work in exchange for riding. While this is something we do, do. It’s a special type of person that this works for. It does not work for people who are timid of horses or very new to riding as the work required is labour intensive and does require handing of the horses. While we appreciate all the offers, sometimes it’s harder for us to ensure everyone’s safety than it is to just do the chores ourselves. For those that might be interested please let me know, we do have a spot open on Friday nights that could be available.

Moving

As you might notice the website has a notice that’s people know that we are now in Mission. Now – our current facility is still in Delta. However in the coming future we will be moving to Mission. I’m looking for some property here to purchase and then build a new facility. This of course takes time so nothing is happening right away . If you could be interested in attending lessons once we move please let me know and I can keep you up to date with the progress..

Drop In Friday Nights

I have been thinking of the idea of putting some drop in lesson times on the schedule and what that would mean is that it would be easier to book. They would be group lessons and $40 for a group drop in, meaning that $40 gets you riding and it could be private or in a group. The lessons would be for adults and those with a bit of experience. Friday nights only and an email the day beforehand would be all that’s required. I’m looking for a bit of feedback on whether that is something that you could be interested in. Please reply to this email with your thoughts.

VP Mission Horse Club

Just a quick note that I have been elected as Vice President of the Mission Horse Club which means we will be attending the majority of the Mission shows this year. If you are interested in coming to some of the shows let me know.

New Edition

We have a new edition arriving tomorrow 21 year old Zephyr is a grey arab and will shortly be added to our lesson string. Zephyr stands 15.2 hh and will work with the beginner adults and some more advanced children. We are very happy to have him join our lesson string. We are sure he will make a great addition.

Cheers,

Good Evening Everyone!

Just a quick update on what’s been going on at Hylee Training over the last month. We are all well on our way to being organized for the Fall/Winter season. Lessons are well under way and we are taking bookings to be included in the November schedule for regular lessons. Yes we do ride all winter. Usually in November we are starting to bundle up a bit but there is no reason to stop riding when you have an indoor ring to ride in.

Don’t forget about the new pricing for group and semi-private lessons. All prices are located on the website here. Just reply to this email if you would like to be included in the November schedule. We do have a few spots open on the weekends in October if need be.

NEW ARRIVAL

This time it’s not a horse! On Sept 11th, Ayden was born and is of course my newest edition. He weighed in a 8.5 lbs and has already been to the barn to meet all horses. If I’m there you’ll expect to see him there as well. He’s always happy to meet new people so, make sure you say Hi to him as well!

THEORY NIGHT

Due to the fact, I was in the hospital during the last theory night – we have rescheduled it! You can RSVP on Facebook on reply to this email.

The new date is Saturday, October 22 · 4:00pm – 6:30pm, the topic is Showmanship Explained!

RIDER LEVELS

We are also starting to test our rider levels again! Don’t forget for the kids these can be applied as High School Credits. Be sure to email me for details on this.

DRC AWARDS

As many of you know I’m still a director at Delta Riding Club and we are heading to their awards night on Saturday, November 12 · 6:00pm – 11:00pm be sure to mark your calendar, as usual we will have a group going. If anyone would like to join us – let me know and I’ll grab you a ticket. It’s always a great night out with some horsey friends Megan and I will be there for sure!

CLINICS

We will be heading out for a clinic with Robin Hahn (yes 3 time Olympian) Robin Hahn in November. If you are interested in attending or even coming out to watch let me know. Here’s a bit about Robin:

One of Canada’s true pioneers of three-day eventing, Robin Hahn is amultiple Olympian and Pan American Games team member. He was the highest placed Canadian at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, finishing ninth individually on Taffy. He has dedicated his life to the pursuitof the highest reaches of excellence, whether it is as a rider, teacher, trainer, volunteer or event organizer. A Level III eventing coach, he helped to create what has become Canada’s coaching certification program. Now 76, Robin continues to mentor event riders; he has also returned to the discipline of his youth, competing with The Congressman in Grand Prix show jumping in 2009. He is currently writing a book titled Gymnastic Jumping. Robin and his wife, Kelly Law, live with three dogs and numerous horses at their farm, on house, in Lumby, B.C.

Excerpt from Island22HorsePark.com

WINNERS

And we can’t forget the winner for our Facebook Review contest Veronika Polanska. Veronika send me an email and we will schedule your lesson!

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick email with an update of the goings on at Hylee. I’m pretty sure I haven’t sent an email since we have moved! The barn is working out great. The indoor is so convenient! The outdoor ring will be complete in 2 weeks and then we are on our way to building some more paddocks. It’s a work in progress as is anything but we are well on our way. The washroom is now working. I’m crossing my fingers I never need to call a plumber again.

June was a very busy month for us! And July is just as busy.

Shows

We attended both a Hunter/Jumper Show at Delta Riding Club and the flat show on June 19th. You can check out the photos on our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/HyleeTraining
We got some great results at both shows. I can’t remember all the placings.. We did take two new show newbies this season Finn & Flash and they were super.

Our next show is August 6 and 7th at the Delta Riding Club. One day is flat and the other is a Hunter/Jumper Day. Please be sure to let me know 1 week ahead if you would like to attend.

Two New Additions

We also have two new additions to the barn. Finn and Ginger. Both come to us from Chilliwack and are already in our lesson program. Visit the website for additional information on each of these guys. http://www.hyleetraining.com/our-horses/

Theory

We have our next Theory night coming up next Sunday at lunch (I know we call it theory night but this one is at lunch!) The topic will be Showmanship. I should be great. Again please RSVP so I know how many people are coming. We will get to use our new huge lounge! And don’t forget to bring a treat to share and remember theory nights is free if you are a client.

Beginner Program

So far our Beginner Program has been a huge success! With Victoria well on her way to her second prize! The goal of the beginner program is to get the younger ones in our group to be forward thinking about getting their horses ready and tacked up for their lesson. This program rewards proper tacking up and allows the students to work towards a goal and a prize! Check with Megan for more details on the Beginner Program (the program is for students under 14 yrs old)

Just a quick note to get everyone up to date. I know my notes are a little sporadic lately but I’m working on it! If you are getting this email you are either a client or past client of Hylee Training.

Schooling Shows

We have just completed our second schooling show of the season! Lots of first prizes! Both Greystone and Crescent Shows were both a success. Megan won the over fences champion at Crescent and Kirsten won the flat champion. I am amazed there were any prizes left for the rest of us…. Kirsten, Megan, Heather and Stephanie were off to the Greystone show yesterday morning and very tried and groggy (note I did not say GRUMPY). Once they got there and the blood got flowing – they all woke up and brought home ribbons in every class. Flash also made his debut in the show ring in the morning with Megan with a 2nd out of 4th in walk/trot.

Photos from the Greystone show are here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=630240&id=905065042

The next show on the books is Mission’s English Western Show on April 10th. It’s an English Western show. I’m still working on the class list but if you would like to attend please let me know. And we are always looking for helpers. So let me know if you are available.

Clinics

This month there are two clinics one is a free feed session with a local feed dealer. Its at DRC and it’s at 10 am on Saturday 2nd. Let me know if you would like to attend.

The second is a clinic with Sue. Yes our own Sue (my coach) the topic is dressage and it’s really affordable $40. The clinic is the same weekend but on Sunday the 3rd of April. If you would like to attend cost will be the $40 payable to DRC and $20 for hauling to the clinic. I am riding in it! Please let me know ASAP as I will be booking times this week. It’s really a great way to get a different perceptive on your riding. I encourage everyone who can go to attend. For those of you not able to ride in it – we can always watch.

Theory Night

Theory Night this month is STABLE MANAGEMENT – which really is learning all about how to take care of your horse! Theory night will be from 5-6:30. We always have a bite beforehand so please bring a dish. It’s potluck. We had the best turnout last time and I’m hoping for some good turnout in April as well. Let me that weekend of if you are coming. Theory night is held at Crescent in either the lounge or above the indoor ring. And as a motivator. I’m going to have a few prizes

Training Materials

Some news on our end is – we have uploaded our past theory night presentations to our slideshare account here: http://www.slideshare.net/AliciaHarper/documents If you are interested please take a look. Also, Janelle, megan and I are working at making the rider levels a bit easier by breaking out the information in separate levels which isn’t the case in the HCBC books. We are hoping that this will make life easier for those of you working towards your rider levels. We hope to have the first level done by end of April.
