Meet the team at Hylee Training

Alicia Harper – Owner/Program Director

Hylee Training is run and owned by Alicia Harper. Originally from New Brunswick, Alicia brings to the table 20 some odd years of horseback riding experience in many disciplines. Alicia is certified as an EC Level One Coach.

Alicia was a Canadian Pony Club member for most of her younger years, achieving her C2 level. Over the years Alicia has attended clinics with coaches and trainers such as: Beth Underhill, Sue Jack, Robin Hahn, Paula Jacobs, Will Simpson and Chelan Kozak. Alicia rode under renowned coach Stacey Maxwell of Sussex, New Brunswick for many years and Yolanda Blommers EC Level 2 coach here in B.C.

She has participated in 3 day events, dressage and hunter/jumper. She has also shown successfully in the Arabian, QH and Paint Circuit. Alicia has shown all over BC, NB, NS and PEI. And continues to show around the Lower Mainland and B.C. now.

Alicia is very active in the horse community and prides herself in giving back. She has held positions such as VP Membership & Marketing  for Horse Council of BC, Secretary of Delta Riding Club and is current the Vice President for the Mission Horse Club.

Alicia generally describes Hylee Training as:

“We are a small relaxed barn with a small lesson string. Here you can find a mix of regular lesson students who are riding to improve in the show ring and ladies who come just to go for a trail ride down the dyke. My focus with my students is to give them a good base of safe riding skills.

I also hope to arm them with problem solving skills they can use when riding other horses. I am a big supporter of horsemanship skills and knowledge and do encourage the more interested students to spend extra time at the barn learning.”

Megan Kenney – Instructor

Megan has been riding for over 10 years, in barns in Central and
Western Canada. Having ridden under coaches such as Sylvia VanGuilder  and Alan Plewis, she now rides under our own Alicia Harper. She is
certified through Equine Canada, and believes in working to meet your
goals no matter what they are. She is responsible for the care of the
lesson horses and for the running of the barn on the weekends. When
teaching Megan brings a fun and personable perspective to lessons, and
imparts problem solving skills as well as a love of riding to those she
teaches.

Meredith Madderom – Instructor

Meredith has been riding for over 15 years, focusing mostly on hunter/jumpers and dressage.  She rode for years under EC Level 2 coach Alison Trotman and has participated in many clinics with a variety of coaches such as Kyle King, Robin Hahn, Georges Malleroni and Sandy Alexander.  She firmly believes that there is always more to learn and continues to take lessons and show.

As an instructor, Meredith likes to maintain a fun and positive learning environment.  She focuses on making sure students understand not just what to do, but why things are done a certain way and encourages lots of questions.

What is the minimum age of child you can take for lessons?

  3. admin says:

They can be as young as 4. However it’s more like a pony ride than anything and is required to be a private lesson.
